Tayla Dalton stuck in hoops limbo as Covid puts US college scholarship on hold

Kiwi hoops prodigy Tayla Dalton feels like she’s had the rug whipped from under her feet as she remains stuck in a Covid-enforced sporting limbo that fills her with equal parts frustration and unease.

All things being equal, the talented 18-year-old daughter of late Silver Fern Tania Dalton would be in California right now, dashing between classes and the gym as she embarks on the first year of a full scholarship at Saint Mary’s College in San Francisco. Instead, she is left playing a frustrating waiting game as the global pandemic throws the American college sporting year into a vortex of uncertainty. Dalton, who has spent the last week in training camp with a young Tall Ferns group in Auckland, revealed to Stuff the extent of her frustrations as she awaits word on when she will be able to head to the US to join the Saint Mary’s Gaels.
