Samalulu originally started surf lifesaving at an early age before transitioning into competitive paddling. She has spent over a decade honing her skills at Lake Pupuke on Auckland's North Shore, representing North Shore Canoe Club.

She spent years training with the New Zealand squad. She later chose to represent her mother’s heritage by switching to compete for Samoa, inspired by her family roots and her brother's prior Olympic run. 

Samalulu graduated from The University of Auckland and works as a Lab Technician. She represented Samoa in the 2024 Paris Olympics in Sprint Kayak.
